There Are Good People In This World
In the interest of keeping it positive tonight, let me just say that in the midst of what has been a very rough time, I had an interaction today that gave me such joy. It’s not always easy standing true to my principles when I’m surrounded by so many who support points of view that I can’t understand and quite frankly break my heart.
I have one of those “s’up bro” gym friendships with a man at Gold’s in Birmingham— one of those friendly relationships that exist completely inside the gym. He’s always ready with a cheerful greeting and a fist bump— I know it’s no problem to ask him for a spot and he’s ready with one for me. We’ll share tips on lifting and up until today that’s been the extent of our interactions. He worked out with a friend today and we ended up leaving at the same time.
In the parking lot we struck up a conversation about some of the current events that I’ve been thinking about a lot. Let me say this: this world is full of wonderful, thoughtful, friendly people who are doing positive things to really make a difference in this world. As I’ve said, I don’t know Dave that well but I can already tell that one of the ways is making a huge difference in the world is that he is being a dynamic and loving father, involved and interested in all aspects of his children’s lives. His friend is furthering his education and a few minutes “communion” with the two beautiful souls— three after Spud joined us, might have been the highlight of my day—nope, it was definitely the highlight of my day.
I thank God for strong men living conscious lives and making a difference in the lives of others. Please be with my two new friends and with my dear buddy Spud. Watch over them and keep them safe. Help me to do my part to make this world a better place for all of us.
See y’all tomorrow.
